Talks and Workshops

‘If you see someone without a smile, give them one of yours’ -Dolly Parton.

I do try to live by this simple principle and I do like to share what I know.

If you belong to a social club, a creative writing group or are looking for a lively engaging speaker for an event in the Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire, Buckinghamshire or Northamptonshire area, I may be able to help.

I am on the WI Speakers list for Bedfordshire and am already taking bookings for 2020.

Talks and Workshops:

From Nurse to Crime Writer: 45-60 minute talk. No ‘death by power point’. Self-depracating journey about learning to kill people off.

How to Plot a Murder: Can be facilitated as a talk of 45 – 60 minutes or as a basic level workshop, usually 2 hours, for keen writers and crime readers or for pure entertainment. Interactive and fun. Ideal for groups of up to 30. Can be extended to a half day or full day session.

Suspense and How to Build it: a 45 -60 minute talk or a basic level workshop, as above. 2 hours. Max 30 people. Can be extended to a half-day or full-day session.

Characterisation in writing: This is a huge subject which I can break down into a series of workshops or facilitate a one off taster session for. Examples include: ‘Building a believable character’, ‘How characters drive storylines,’ ‘Character Flaws: the good the bad and the ugly,’.

Away from writing, I also have a wealth of experiences from my many years as a Mental Health Nurse and can offer the following:

Brains sometimes go wrong: a 45-60 minute talk about understanding common mental health problems.

Understanding Psychosis: What is it? How can it be recognised early?: a 45 – 60 minute talk, factual and insightful.

Prices:  For charitable organisations and libraries I try to keep charges to a minimum. WI talks are usually charged at £50 plus travel expenses, prices for workshops will vary dependent on requirements.
